SUMMARY:River Bend Run and Gun - Georgia - March -2026
DESCRIPTION:Run n Gun:\nRun n Gun is a center-fire biathlon intended to test your abilities and equipment while tired and to stressed. You will have to carry all ammo\, weapons\, and equipment on your person. You should step off with everything you need to complete the courses of fire and the run by yourself. We recommend bringing water with you on the run. No one is allowed to assist you while on the course except for emergency situations. \nAll participants will be expected to comply with firearms safety at all times. If you demonstrate an inability or unwillingness to follow basic firearm safety\, you will be asked to leave\, with no refund and no apology. Muzzles must be pointed in a safe direction at all times\, and fingers must be off the trigger unless the firearm is pointed at a target. Rifles and pistols shall only be loaded when a shooter is at a stage under the direction of an RO. \nClub Rules For Firearm Handling\nFirearms may NOT be loaded in the parking lot. Per club rules competitors should minimize the handling of firearms at their cars. We have designated tables and racks for firearms up at the clubhouse. Please utilize utilize these safe areas when you need to check your dots\, slings\, etc. \nScoring:\nParticipants will receive both a score for their run based on how long it took them to complete the course minus wait times\, and a score for their shooting based on how long it took them to clear each course of fire (time + points). The run score and shooting score will be weighted 50/50 in determining the participant’s final score. \nRun Course:\nThe run course is a mix of on road and off-road. The course is marked with signs\, yellow tape and flags. Look for the tape and signs\, pay attention so you don’t get lost. Always look for the next yellow tape before moving from the previous yellow tape. If you see red tape\, do not cross it! If you cross red tape you are OFF COURSE\, turn around and go back. The course takes you close to some live ranges and crossing the red tape may put you in harm’s way.\nThere is a pick up along the course – make sure you grab one to ensure that you didn’t cut any corners. \nStages:\nThere will be 6-7 stages. The time limit for each stage is between 120-180 seconds. Some stages you will complete quickly and others you will be struggling to get under the limit – this is intentional. If you fail a stage don’t let it ruin the rest of your match. \nEstimated Minimum Round Count (we recommend carrying double; round count will be updated as the match is finalized and will be posted here):\n~90 rifle\n~90 pistol \nThe max distance for our ranges is 600 yards. No shots will be further than that\, but that doesn’t mean your furthest shots will be that distance. \nClasses:\nHeavy division – You must complete the course with an additional 35 lbs of extra weight. You will weigh in before and after your run.\nLight Division – regular run and gun equipment. \nEquipment:\nThe only equipment that is strictly required to participate is a safe center fire rifle\, a safe center fire pistol\, a secure pistol holster (you will be running\, crawling\, and climbing – DROPPING A LOADED WEAPON IS A DQ)\, a rifle sling\, enough ammo to clear the course\, eye protection\, ear protection\, and some form of stopwatch. \nThe rifle must shoot rifle caliber ammo (223 minimum)\, and the pistol must shoot pistol caliber (9mm minimum\, no .223 pistols). \nNo green tip or steel core ammo – this will damage our steel. If you are caught with steel or green tip ammo on a stage you will be DQ’d. Check your ammo and swap it out if needed. \nBefore Each Stage:\nWhen a shooter approaches a stage\, they are required to show a RO an empty mag well and empty chamber on his rifle as well as an empty pistol.\nIf you show up to a stage with a loaded weapon\, you will be DQ’d.\nIf another shooter is currently on the stage when you arrive\, you will be instructed by an RO to start your wait time. When the shooter is ready to shoot the stage\, the RO will record his wait time if any. \nWait time:\nIf you arrive on a stage and must wait\, note that once you start your wait time you may not fiddle with your gear. If your rifle was slung when you started wait time\, it must remain slung. You may not load magazines or move ammunition between magazines during wait time. If you need to take a potty break or do something other than stand there\, stop your wait time and do what you need. The RO should have positioned you so you cannot watch the stage and gain an advantage. Don’t peek. You may drink water during wait time as we don’t want you getting dehydrated but that is the only exception. \nIt is purely the shooter’s responsibility to keep track of their wait time. The ROs have no responsibility whatsoever to help you keep track of the wait. \nThe Course of Fire\nBefore the course of fire the RO will explain the stage to you. This is your time to ask questions. \nAll stages will have a zone where the shooter must fire from and a direction that they must shoot. This is to ensure fairness and safety at all times. You must pay attention to the briefs to ensure that you can complete the stage quickly and safely. \nFirearms must NEVER point backwards (commonly called the 180 degree rule) or at ROs. You are responsible for where your weapon points. If you’re getting close the ROs will yell at you to fix it. If you break these rules you will be DQ’d (disqualified). \nLikewise if you have a negligent discharge at any time\, you will be DQ’d.\nLet’s be careful and not let that happen. Safety is a priority.\nIf for any reason the ‘cease fire’ command is given\, you will immediately cease fire\, and wait for instructions from the RO. \nThe RO at the end of the stage will re-check that your weapons are clear before giving you instructions to move to the next stage. HOWEVER it is your responsibility to ensure that the weapons are unloaded. \nProblems\nArguing with an RO – don’t do it. They have my full support. If you argue with an RO you will be asked to leave. If an RO DQ’s you for violating a safety rule\, they will contact me and we will all have a discussion about what happened and why. If you are DQ’d\, that will be the end of your day. \nIf you have a disagreement about a hit being made\, a score or wait time\, come see me when you are done running. \nA word on scoring – we’ve all been there\, sometimes a hit isn’t called\, sometimes you made it before the buzzer\, sometimes it got recorded wrong. It happens\, it’s happened to me as well. Everyone here is a volunteer doing their best to make sure things are as accurate as possible. We all make mistakes\, but don’t let it ruin your day. \nYour Fitness:\nThis event is in a remote area\, and you need to be aware of over-exertion. We will have folks with medical skills on hand\, but your health is your responsibility. If you start having problems\, slow down… drink water… listen to your body! There is no shame in walking the course\, know yourself and your limitations. Make sure you are hydrating and eating something. \nYour Speed:\nThis event is intended to test your abilities under stress. It is up to you to only go as fast as you can safely. This applies not just to the run but also to the course of fire. If you need to go extra slow to reholster safely PLEASE DO SO. The fractions of a second it adds to your score won’t make or break your day – an injury will! \nWithdrawal / Refunds:\nIf you need to withdraw from the match you must do so at least 1 week before the match starts to get a refund. I understand that emergencies and last minute changes come up\, but i have to have a limit on when people can back out so that I can budget the match properly. \nSafety Brief:\nYou must attend a mandatory safety brief to participate. The safety brief will be at 7:30am and 11:30am Saturday.
