Wave 2 will be a mix of 5 and 10K. Event day registration opens at 06:30 and closes at 12:00. You will receive your specific start time at registration. You must be registered prior to your designated safety brief and you must attend your designated safety brief. \nWave 1: 07:15 Safety Brief\n08:00 First Runner – 10:41 Last Runner \nWave 2: 10:00 Safety Brief\n10:48 First Runner – 13:29 Last Runner \nWave 3: 12:45 Safety Brief\n13:36 First Runner – 16:03 Last Runner \n18:00 Awards Ceremony and Random Draw Prize Table (time may vary based on when the last runner finishes and scores are complete). \nIntroduction: \nThe Badger Trekker is a 5K or 10K Run and Gun\, “shooting biathlon\,” combining aspects of a trail run\, mud run\, obstacle course\, and a multi-gun match. The Trekker is not for the faint of heart. If you dislike mud and water\, pushups\, heights\, or physical challenges\, this is probably not the event for you! \nThis event is not intended for inexperienced shooters – you must have an adequate understanding of firearms safety and skills. \nThis is a test of man and equipment alike. Everyone competes equally – there are no divisions. Stages offer a variety of challenges and unique opportunities\, both mentally and physically. It’s intended to give you a good idea of how the environment and mental/physical fatigue affect your shooting and performance. \nHow It Works: \nThe Badger Trekker is a centerfire biathlon that is either a distance of 5k or 10k\, depending on your preference. Participants start the trail at predetermined times provided at registration the day of the event. Runners follow a clearly-marked path that spans the club property. Any and all natural obstacles like hills and water may be used against you. Pay attention to signage as the 5k and 10k courses share parts of the path and also deviate from one another. Of course\, the 10k route contains more stages than the 5k. \nThe trails and path itself are well marked. The club has 80 acres and vigilant neighbors\, so all participants are required to stay on the marked path throughout the run. The trail may feature difficult terrain but this on purpose. You’ll likely experience a little bit of everything except paved roads. Be mindful of other participants and traffic at all times. \nShooting stages are located in bays at various points along the trail and each is under the direct supervision of a Range Officer (RO). Firearms will be checked by ROs at the arrival and departure of each stage – rifles must be unloaded and pistols unloaded until given the make ready on stage one. Pistols may remain hot and holstered after stage one. Between stages rifles must be empty and on safe\, pistol securely holstered. \nStages contain unique shooting and physical challenges and distances vary. The longest rifle shot will be around 300 yards\, and the longest handgun shots might be out to 50 yards. \nEvery stage contains a par time to prevent back ups and keep things moving. Shooters will be stopped at par time regardless of progress and penalties for missed targets\, etc will given accordingly. \nEquipment and Fitness Requirements: \nThe Badger Trekker is a “run what you brung” style match\, meaning you can use any gear you choose (with a few exceptions). Want to use your M1 Garand and honor your bad-ass grandfather? Have mad cop skills with a .38 special? Or do you favor the ultra tacticool tricked out Mk18? Most people run an AR15\, but any safe center fire rifle that meets the ammunition requirements below are welcome. For handguns\, the recommended minimum caliber is 9MM\, no magnums are allowed. \nAmmunition – Armor Piercing\, Steel tip / core and SS109 ammunition is NOT allowed for this event. Anyone found shooting armor piercing or steel core ammo will be DQ’d. No rounds larger than 308 or exceeding 3200 FPS will be permitted. Most of the steel targets you are shooting today are owned personally by the staff. Please respect our property. \nThere is NO zeroing or sighting in at this event. Come prepared. \nHere is a list of gear you will need: \n• Reliable\, sighted in rifle\n• Reliable\, sighted in handgun\n• Magazines for both\n• Rifle ammo count TBD\n• Handgun ammo count TBD\n• Holster that covers the trigger of your handgun (no soft holsters permitted)\n• Sling for rifle that allows safe carry (avoid the single points)\n• Ear and eye protection\n• Stopwatch or time keeping device\n• Water and food\n• A belt\, bag\, chest rig\, or plate carrier to carry everything\n• Footwear and clothes appropriate for the weather that are OK being destroyed\n• Pen and note pad or something to record scores and time \nWhat NOT to bring: \n• A cart or wagon\n• A firearm you can’t be safe with (too heavy\, not familiar\, etc)\n• Steel core\, magnum\, penetrator\, armor piercing\, green tip\, or tracer ammo\n• Clothing that doesn’t shed water quickly \nParticipants should be in good health as the event is physically demanding. Please consider any physical limitations you may have as your health is your responsibility. Drink plenty of water and beware of over-exertion. Move at a pace that is comfortable. \nPlease be sure to check out our sponsors and let them know you appreciate their support!

SUMMARY:The Gun Run - North Carolina - September - 2026
DESCRIPTION:READ THIS WHOLE PAGE! Come out and join us for The Gun Run at DeWitt’s Outdoor Sports in North Carolina! Be sure to choose an option that best matches your average 5k time without equipment so we can schedule the run order to reduce back ups on shooting stages. On sale July 27th at 7PM EST! Be sure to check your spam folder after purchasing for email from info@thegunrun.us \nWait List sign up will be on this page\, do not email us to get on the wait list. \nInfo: \nThe Gun Run is an approximately 5 kilometer centerfire biathlon\, also known as a run and gun. Participants will carry a rifle\, pistol\, ammunition\, and magazines as they negotiate obstacles and approximately 6 shooting stages. This article explains the event. \nLocation and Date: \nSaturday\, September 12th\, 2026 at DeWitt’s Outdoor Sports 443 Jimmy Carriker Road Ellerbe\, North Carolina. \nCourse of Fire: \nThe course of fire will not be posted prior to the match. This is to challenge you in the moment. Expect to shoot rifles to 300yds and pistols to 50yds with minimum round counts of 40 rifle and 35 pistol. \nEquipment: \nYou will need a centerfire rifle and centerfire pistol with enough ammunition to clear the course of fire\, eye protection\, ear protection\, and some form of stopwatch. Water is also highly recommended. You may use any type of gear you want to carry your equipment. Pistols must be carried in a secure holster that covers the trigger if they are to be carried loaded. Rifles may be carried any way you like\, as long as they remain pointed in a safe direction. Targets will be steel therefore tracers\, armor piercing bullets\, and bullets with a steel core like M855 are not allowed. Magnum calibers are also not allowed (see below for exceptions). Your pistol must shoot a pistol caliber round. Your rifle must shoot a rifle caliber round unless you are using a Pistol Caliber Carbine. PCCs are allowed but must only be used to engage rifle targets. Feel free to contact us if you have questions about using your firearm. \nRules: \nCheck in will begin at 7 AM on race day and end at 11:30 AM. The run order will be published several days prior to the race. Run order will be fastest to slowest to prevent back ups at shooting stages. There will be a mandatory safety briefing at 7:30 AM for morning runners and 11:30 AM for runners with a start time of Noon or later. If you are running in the afternoon you can come to the later safety brief. The first runner will start at 8 AM. \nBasic firearm safety must be observed at all times. Do not point your firearm at another human being and keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are aligned on designated targets. Rifles will only be loaded under the supervision of a Range Officer (RO). Loaded pistols must remain in a secure holster until shooting a stage under the supervision of a RO. If you are found to be breaking these rules you will be disqualified and escorted off the premises. \nThe run route will take you over varying terrain\, through water\, and over/under obstacles. Do not stray from the marked trail or it may take you into the live fire impact area. Do not skip obstacles or you will receive a run score of 0. \nWhen you approach a shooting stage\, you will first show the RO an empty mag well and empty chamber on your rifle\, if another shooter is currently on the stage when you arrive\, the RO will tell you to start your stopwatch to keep track of your wait time. It is your responsibility to properly time your wait time. The cumulative wait time\, if any\, will be subtracted from your overall run time. When the shooter in front of you has cleared the stage\, the RO will record the wait time that you have on your watch. \nAfter explaining the stage to you\, the RO will give you commands to load and begin firing. Every shooting stage will have a time limit. If you do not complete the stage under the time limit\, you will receive a score of 0 for that stage. If the RO tells you to cease fire you will holster your pistol and unload your rifle. The RO will tell you your time and record your time on the score card. You must show the RO an empty mag well and chamber on your rifle before leaving each stage. Do not run with the bolt open on your empty rifle\, Carolina sand will gladly fill your chamber! \nAt the end of the race your run and shoot scores will be calculated. There will be a random draw of prizes from sponsors that will be awarded. \nThere will be medical personnel at the event in case of emergencies but be aware of over exertion. It will be hot. There is no shame in slowing down and walking. If you believe you cannot complete the event\, an RO will assist in transporting you back to the start. This event is rain or shine. \nAccommodations: \nCall DeWitts at 910-652-2926 for camping and RV hookup information. \nRefund/Cancellation Policy: \nYou have until 14 days out from the event to cancel and receive a refund. No refund will be given after that. To cancel\, contact us by e-mail at info@thegunrun.us. Please notify us as quickly as possible if you need to cancel so we can offer your spot to someone else.
